Leeds Artist Development Workshop

Richard Chappell Dance is thrilled to deliver a free workshop for local professional dance artists in Leeds on the 4th April 2024 at Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Revolving around Richard Chappell Dance’s choreographic and producing practices, this workshop is taking place ahead of RCD's performance of Hot House at Barnsley Civic on the 5th April 2024. Produced as part of Richard Chappell Dance’s 2024 Artist Development programme through a partnership with Northern School of Contemporary Dance, the workshop is free for participants.

About the Day
4th April, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, 11.00am-4.00pm

The day will start with a contemporary dance workshop which will explore the dance and choreographic practices of Richard Chappell. Richard will lead a warm up class drawing from his experiences in dance practice and training for leading UK and international companies and institutions. The class will be accessible and inclusive. The second part of the workshop will explore the choreographic process of Richard Chappell Dance's recent production, Hot House. Richard will share RCD's practices in improvisation, movement generation and dramaturgy.

The final part of the workshop will be an open discussion facilitated by Richard, focusing on self-producing for artists in 2024. We will explore pressing questions such as portfolio building, freelance momentum, developing partnerships and local, regional and national support structures.


Workshop Eligibility

There are 25 spaces available for the workshop, which will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The workshop is suitable for professional dance artists or current third year students, working in any style or genre. The workshop has been designed for early to mid-career dance artists.
